Proud Race Day

Proud Race Day was celebrated at Avila College with a reading of the acknowledgement of the land to all students.

The bollards that were decorated to celebrate the stories of Indigenous Australians were on display for all to see in a prominent garden at the cllege. The statue of St Teresa was adorned in the famous red, yellow and black colours as pictured. Senior students ran a quiz at lunchtime based around Indigenous stories. The Reconcilaition Group at Avila College comprises students who are committed to reconciliation and they were instrumental in making Proud Race Day such a sucess at the college.

Ms Vicki Clark, Coordinator of Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Victoria said, “It is vital that this significant date is central to our children’s understanding of our history and the story of our Country’s First Peoples,”
