High Achievers Assembly

2014 VCE and VCAL high achieving students were recently welcomed back to the college for the High Achievers Assembly. We celebrated and acknowledged students who achieved outstanding ATAR scores of 90 and above, students who attained the highest study score in their subject and celebrated the efforts and achievement of our VCAL High Achiever.

Monica De Rango, 2014 Collge Dux was presented with the Filomena Salvatore Dux gift and she also shared some insights into her time at Avila with the community.

Special guest at the assembly was Avila Alumnae Dr Fiona Brownfoot who completed Year 12 in 2001. After graduating from Avila, she moved to Adelaide to take up undergraduate studies for a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Adelaide. While she was studying in Adelaide that Dr Brownfoot was awarded a place in the John Flynn Scholarship Program, which enabled her to undertake her first scholarship placement at a small health clinic in Arnhem Land. Dr Brownfoot completed her internship at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2008. She is now specialising in obstetrics and gynecology at The Royal Women’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women. Dr Brownfoot is also a clinical lecturer and examiner for medical students at Melbourne University. During her presentation she shared information about her current PhD research into possible medical treatments for preeclampsia.

Dr Brownfoot’s recollection of her time at Avila College and her journey since that time was inspiring. She spoke of the importance of hard work and commitment in achieving your goals.
