Vesica Piscis – Unity of Heaven and Earth
Avila College is proud to unveil the newly installed stained-glass window in the Welcome Administration Building, a striking feature that creatively represents art, faith and community.
This bespoke artwork has been thoughtfully designed around the scripture reference “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10), which underpins the spirit and mission of Avila College. “Life to the full” reflects Avila College’s unwavering commitment to nurturing an environment where students flourish – through education, faith, compassion, purpose and service.
The design symbolizes our limitless potential as Ecclesiae Filia, Daughters of the Church and our ability to grow spiritually, intellectually and socially within the fullness of life, a life illuminated by faith, hope and love. At its heart, the Cross stands as the central motif. Flowing ribbons of colour weave through the design representing the praise and worship we send out into the cosmos. Four sacred geometric figures are also depicted: the square, the equilateral triangle, the circle and the Vesica Piscis. Together they unite in the glass tapestry to symbolise the four cardinal points and elements (square), the Holy Trinity (triangle), the eternity and boundlessness of God (circle) and the unity of heaven and earth (Vesica Piscis).
It creates a welcoming first impression for all who enter the building and offers a timeless reflection of the College’s Catholic identity. Developed through consultation with students and staff, its vibrant palette and flowing composition complements the natural beauty of our surroundings.
This artwork was beautifully created by Architectural Glass Artist Christopher John, Red Phoenix Glass.
