National Reconciliation Week

Avila College celebrated National Reconciliation Week by starting work on a Bunjil’s Nest collaborative artwork. Students, staff and members of the wider community were invited to write messages of hope for reconciliation and care of creation onto sticks which will be woven together to form a nest sculpture. The sculpture will endure as a lasting reminder of Avila’s commitment to reconciliation. Members of Monash Reconciliation Group visited Avila to contribute their message of working together to create a better future.

Avila’s Reconciliation Week concluded with the Long Walk on Saturday 30 May. Students and staff met at Federation Square to enjoy performances by Archie Roach and the Indigenous Hip Hop Project before walking to the MCG in commemoration of Michael Long’s 2004 walk to Canberra to get Indigineous issues back on the national agenda.
