A Pathway for All

Pathways and career education is an integral part of the Avila journey and starts early with the Year 9 Careers program which includes guest speakers and visits to tertiary institutions. In Year 10 students undertake the Morrisby Test to help them identify their personal strengths and match them with suitable career and study pathways based on psychometric assessments. In the senior years, all students have one-on-one consultations with the Careers team to ensure that their subject selection choices are suitable for their considered pathways and they have options and opportunities after graduating. Each year Avila College also hosts a career expo where representatives from a range of universities and tertiary institutions present their courses, opportunities and pathways, helping students make direct and informed connections with their next step.

Career education at Avila College encompasses:

  • Learning about the world of work, its changing nature, the general expectations of employers, and the demands of the workplace
  • Developing self-awareness in relation to interests, abilities, competencies and values
  • Being aware and understanding of occupational information and career pathways
  • Developing skills in decision-making which can be applied to career choices
  • Acquiring the skills necessary to implement the career decisions made. (MCEETYA Career Education Taskforce, 1998)
Wherever possible, the Victorian Careers Curriculum Framework is used to direct activities and curriculum.
