LOTE (Languages other than English)
Avila offers students a choice of three languages - Italian, Indonesian and French – through its LOTE program.
It is compulsory for students to study a language until the end of Year 9.
In Year 7, students are provided with a ‘taster’ in each of the three languages so they are better placed to decide which language they would like to pursue until the end of Year 9, or through to VCE level. The Language Market computer program is an invaluable teaching tool used in lessons to help develop the listening skills of students.
Avila ’s LOTE program is further enriched by language-based overseas trips which are offerd to students. These optional trips enable students to practice the languages they have studied, and to gain a greater appreciation of other cultures and their customs and history.
