PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH
Physical Education and Health is an integral part of our school structure and is a compulsory subject for all students in Years 7 to 10 at Avila College.
The aim of this subject is to contribute to the total development of each student, to promote an understanding of the importance of personal and community actions in developing health and lifelong participation in physical activity.
Physical Education provides the students with the opportunity to achieve optimum levels of motor skills in a range of individual and team activities.
The area of Health incorporates physical fitness, social interaction, self confidence, nutrition, first aid, human reproduction, health, decision-making, and dealing with peer pressure and risk taking behaviour.
In Year 11, students undertake a compulsory Recreational-based program. They also may choose VCE units 1-4 in Physical Education when in year 11 and 12.
Avila offers an extensive Sports program which operates on the belief that all students should participate in sport. Lunch time and after school in–house competitions are conducted throughout the year. These include netball, basketball, athletics, and swimming. At the interschool level, Avila is strongly represented in the Secondary Catholic Sports’ Association (SCSA) events.
