TECHNOLOGY (ICT)
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an integral and dynamic part of the learning process at Avila and constantly evolving to meet the needs of students and society in general.
In addition to timetabled activities, students have access to computer facilities before and after school, and, at lunchtimes and recess with the computers rooms usually being open by 7.30am.
Student are encouraged to be innovative users of ICT, to explore the expanding possibilities the technology provides and to be exposed to a range of new technologies as they become available. ICT can form an exciting part of a students learning as they engage in using animation software, programming dynamic web pages, mastering leading design software such as Photoshop and Flash, or expressing their ideas using a word processor or some of the visual thinking tools available.
To cope with this ever changing world we challenge students to be flexible users of ICT; we offer them exposure to multiple operating systems and a wide range of software from both the standard vendors as well as the open source community.
All students are encouraged to develop a digital portfolio of their work in the form of a web site which is hosted on the College servers. Our on-line Content Management System, available both at school and from home, also provides each student with access to their own blog where they can reflect on their learning. The CMS is used to provide students with access to course material, engage in on-line forums related to their studies, submit work, attempt tests and quizzes.
In line with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS), ICT is integrated into all subjects where it can enhance learning.
In the Middle School, students have the opportunity to study a number of electives including an excellent range of specialised ICT units.
At VCE level, Units 1 and 2 in Information Technology (IT in Action & IT Pathways) are offered at Year 11 while IT Applications is available to students in year 12.
